Bókun website: What is SSL, and why is it important?
This article shares information about SSL including what it is and why it is important to attract customers
SSL stands for ‘Secure Sockets Layer' and is a protocol used to encrypt and authenticate the data sent between an application (like your browser) and a web server. This is based on 3 core benefits:
- Encryption - which is essential for any website handling sensitive data such as customer details or payment information. It also protects the data of the website itself.
- Authentication - A working SSL connection ensures that data is being sent to and received from the correct server, rather than a malicious “man in the middle”, meaning it helps to prevent malicious actors from falsely impersonating a site.
- It also improves your website’s position in Google’s organic searches and the trust of its visitors (travellers may be less likely to book through websites without SSL)
By adding the Advanced Website Upgrade app, you can set up SSL for your website. More information on our Apps.
Setting up SSL through your website builder
Important: The Bókun website needs to be published and mapped to a domain before the SSL certificate can be generated. Learn more here.
Once the website is published and configured with a custom domain, you can set up SSL following the steps below:
- On your left-hand panel, this can be found under Settings > Site SSL.
- Click Generate certificate to create an SSL certificate.
- To ensure your site is always accessed through SSL, you can click on the Force visitors to use secure connection (HTTPS) toggle. Any visitor will be redirected to the secure connection once this is enabled.
4. Once the certificate status is showing as Approved, you’ll need to Republish your website for it to come into effect. From this point it can take anything from 30 minutes to 48 hours for the certificate to show on browsers.
Why is my SSL certificate still not showing?
The process of configuring the newly generated SSL certificate, is fully automated and may take up to 30 minutes. However, even once this has been approved within your website builder, the certificate may not be visible in the browser for up to 48 hours.
